Hooray for winter warmers, keep your hands busy by making this chic, cosy winter hat
The gorgeous Bernat Stepping Textured Hat courtesy of Yarnspirations was by far my favourite free crochet hat pattern that I found online. It looks so snugly and cosy. It was an absolute pleasure to make … so much so that I made three hats one after the other! Here are two of the hats I made; the grey one ended up being extra slouchy as I worked a few too many rounds but the slouchy look works well.
Here is the YouTube video with excellent instructions for anyone who is keen to make them. Yarnspirations did a fab job in making this clear and easy to follow.
You start by doing ribbing stitching – which acts as the base. Then you work, alternating front and back post stitches around the hat. It builds up surprisingly quickly. You can make the pompoms yourself, or I requested some samples of fake fur and tied them into a ball. I’m glad I did this as I prefer the contrast of the fur with the yarn, but pompoms also work well.
