This crochet puffer bodywarmer is another new piece of crochet clothing I decided to tackle this year.

I saw this crochet puffer jacket via Hooked by Brianna’s Instagram and fell in LOVE. You can buy a detailed pattern via her website.

Brianna also released a video about the process which helped me understand the construction.

I’ve wanted a super cozy crochet puffer bodywarmer for ages to keep me warm in the winter at home and nothing I saw while shopping online was ideal. I had a load of Drops Wish yarn in Burgundy which was going to be perfect for this project.

To get the perfect fit, I used my favorite jacket as a template. I altered mine, by shaping the front and decreasing the stitches around the arm so it was more shaped.

Materials needed to make the bodywarmer and drawing of the construction

The crochet puffer bodywarmer is constructed with 10 panels.

  • X3 for the front left
  • X3 for the front right
  • X3 covering the back
  • X1 for the collar

Each panel is made like a little pocket that is filled with wadding and then closed. When each of the panel is complete, they are all sewn together with a zip also sewn at the front.

Materials I used to make the crochet puffer bodywarmer:

  • Approx. 750g Drops Wish Yarn
  • 9mm crochet hook
  • Long Zip
  • Wadding to fill
  • Needle to sew together
  • Scissors

Attaching the zip was by far the most satisfying part of this project. I followed this tutorial by Heart Hook Home.

This method nestles the zip inbetween two layres of half double crochet that are worked from the bottom to the very top of the collar. The zip is hidden inbetween the two rows and sewn into place giving a professional and super neat finish.
